montgomery county animal rescue league
AWLMC has achieved so much since its inception in September 2005. We continue as an all-volunteer, non-profit organization. Our every effort is guided by our mission: improving the lives of Montgomery County residents and animals through programs directed at education, adoption, animal shelter, and low-cost spay/neuter services. The AWLMC operates and maintains a no-kill cat shelter in Montgomery County, MD.
Since 2005 we have completed 1,561 cat adoptions. Our homey adoption friendly shelter is located in Olde Towne Gaithersburg. We moved into this location in 2011 and modified the interior to have 5 group rooms for the cats and allow space for floor cats to roam throughout the building. We have cat trees at every window and large climbing trees in the central areas. We added an outside storage shed on the property.
We utilize all of the building to make the cats in our care safe and comfortable, and to offer potential adopters space to meet the purrfect cat for their household. The AWLMC provides education and resources for low-cost spay/neuter services, keeping animals from reproducing litters that would ultimately end up in municipal shelters. In February 2010, the AWLMC launched our first Spay/Neuter initiative, offering 100 free sterilization surgeries to the cats of Montgomery County residents facing economic hardship.
Since 2010 3,300 pets have been sterilized through the AWLMC program. This program is successful when fewer unwanted litters are taken to municipal shelters. The AWLMC provides pet food to pet owners who are facing economic hardship, so they have the means necessary to keep their companion animals. The Chompers Pet Food Bank began in December 2010 to address a need in our community, and it is now a permanent part of our services to Montgomery County.
To date, we have distributed 50,503 pounds of free pet food to 2,269 pet owners in need. We have assisted 490 senior citizen pet owners, many who have multiple animals in their households. We have found that some were feeding their animals instead of themselves, or forgoing needed medicines before finding our program. Amazing dedicated volunteers enable AWLMC to help many people and animals. Also critical to continuing our mission is the support of donors who, like us, love animals and want to help.
We have set a goal of raising $30,000 annually to support our shelter and programs. We need your help. Every donation, large and small, is greatly appreciated and goes directly to helping people and animals in Montgomery County. Thank you so much for your support. Outside of a jungle of rain-washed pines and junipers spearing the hot blueness of your Florida sky, ran a small, tawny-haired boy. His bare toes, extending from his overalled legs, crackled versus the fallen palmettos. He leaped in to the air, flinging his arms towards a flock of white doves circling previously mentioned him.
