Our adoptions program is one of the most important parts of our life saving efforts. Pets are available for adoption at the shelter and at various locations throughout our community on our Adoption Waggin.Adoptions ~ click here to see Who’s Available Animals available for adoption are screened by our staff for signs of health and behavior problems. While we believe them to be free of any problems, diseases can incubate for weeks or months with no outward signs of illness.
The same can be said for behavior. Sometimes the animal may not show any signs of behavior problems during their stay at the shelter. We gather as much information as possible at the time of intake to offer them the best chance at finding a new home. Sometimes information is limited or not available. We must rely on the observations and interactions with our staff and volunteers to determine any special needs.
Our pets receive the best possible care that can be provided with our limited resources and follow the vaccination protocol for animal shelters as outlined by the American Animal Hospital Association. Boone County laws require any animal adopted from the shelter to be spayed/neutered within 30 days of adoption. We try to have the surgery done prior to release but will not make an animal sit in the shelter if the surgery can’t be completed due age or is recovering from an illness or injury.
A spay/neuter voucher will be provided in these circumstances. Adoption fees are; Adoptions ~ Adoption Waggin’ Dogs/Puppies ~ $60 (spayed/neutered) $120 (not spayed/neutered) Cats/Kittens ~ Free (over 1 yr & spayed/neutered) $45 (under 1 yr & spayed/neutered) $90 (not spayed/neutered) Barn Cats ~ Free (go here for more info) Ferrets ~ $40 Small Animals ~ $10 Fee includes spay/neuter, vaccinations, parasite treatment (as needed), microchip, registration, Boone County license, free health check with one of our participating veterinarians, and adoption kit.
